Positions of Power
Inside each of us there’s a lion and a lamb. The lion is there to protect, to defend, to conquer. The lion is courageous, aggressive, and helps us accomplish our dreams. The lamb is there to stay in peace, to overlook offenses, to not respond to every hurt, to let God fight our battles. We see this in Jesus, “the Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Revelation 5:5). As the Lion, He ran wrongdoers out of the temple and confronted the religious leaders who had impure motives, calling them hypocrites. He is also called “the Lamb of God” (John 1:36). As the Lamb, when they brought Him before Pilate with false accusations, “He answered him not a word” (Matthew 27:14). When the soldiers came to arrest Him, He said, “I could pray to My Father right now, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels,” but He didn’t do it. He had a purpose to fulfill. He knew it was all a part of God’s plan. During the life of Jesus, He was the Lamb many more times than He was the Lion.
The question isn’t: are you a lion or a lamb? You’re both. The key is knowing which one is supposed to come out. Ecclesiastes 3 says, “There is a time and season for every purpose. There’s a time for war and a time for peace. A time to fight and a time to hold back.” You won’t reach your destiny by being all lion, fighting all the time, or by being all lamb, retreating all the time. Some people are always ready to battle. They are easily offended, love arguing and speaking their mind, and are always trying to pay people back. But you’re not supposed to fight every battle. Many of the things that come against us are simply distractions. It’s the enemy trying to waste your time, your energy, your emotions, getting you engaged in conflict that doesn’t matter. When someone does us wrong or says hurtful things, the lion naturally rises. But your assignment is too important to get sidetracked fighting battles that don’t advance your destiny. There’s a lamb in you who stays in peace and knows when to walk away from conflict. Do yourself a favor and let the lamb come out. Let God fight your battles.
When Jesus refused to have the angels rescue Him, He was showing us that to reach our destiny we’re going to have to overlook some insults, not defend ourself every time, not have to have the last word, not spend our energy roaring, trying to straighten people out. There’s a peaceful lamb in you who knows that God is your vindicator, that nothing can stop what He has purposed for your life. When you’re in peace, you’re in a position of power. Why not be still and know that He is God?
